Utah Winter Activities
Winter has arrived in Utah and the last two weeks the snow has been falling. In northern Utah the ski resorts have opened and the snowmobiling in the high country has just begun. In southern Utah the national and state parks have had great weather for hiking and exploring with a dusting of snow to make the red rock canyons and arches even more beautiful in the winter. Here are some of our favorite winter recreation activities in Utah.
Snow skiing is one of our favorite winter activities. Utah has some of the best snow skiing in the world with dry, powdery snow and some great mountains. There is a reason that Utah has a saying that Utah has the greatest snow on earth. There are dozens of ski resorts in northern Utah. Alta, Brighton, Deer Valley, Powder Mountain, and Snowbasin are some of the best ski resorts in the United States.
Snowmobiling is another amazing winter activity in northern Utah. There are hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails in the Uinta Mountains that take snowmobilers to some of the most beautiful high mountain meadows in the world. These high mountain meadows and valleys are full of powdery snow in the winter and make world-class snowmobiling. Those that enjoy snowmobiling will love exploring the high country in the Uinta Mountains in the winter.
Southern Utah has amazing winter hiking. The national and state parks around southern Utah are perfect for winter hiking. Zion National Park, Capital Reef National Park, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and Bryce Canyon National Park are amazing areas to hike and explore any time of the year, but the winter is a great time to hike in these spectacular national parks. The crowds are minimal, the snow creates beautiful scenery against the red rock formations and arches, and most days the weather is mild.
ATV and UTV riding is another great winter recreation activity in southern Utah. Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and Sand Hollow State Park are amazing areas to ride with family and friends. Groups will love to spend a few days riding the sand dunes and trails around these great state parks in southern Utah.
